Number of foreign ships' calls to ports of Russian-occupied Crimea declining – Ukraine's ministry

Ukraine's Ministry for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons says the number of foreign ships' calls to ports of Russian-occupied Crimea has decreased since the beginning of the year.

"A total of 1,207 calls of cargo ships and tankers were registered in the ports and port waters of the occupied Crimea from August 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018," the ministry said on October 20, adding that this refers to vessels equipped with automatic identification systems.

As reported, most ships, namely 98 vessels flying the flag of Russia, entered the seaports of the occupied Yevpatoria, Kerch, Sevastopol, Feodosia, and Yalta. They visited the ports over 1,000 times, it said.

Among the countries whose ships call to the seaports that are closed for international shipping under Ukrainian legislation are Palau, Togo, Sierra Leone, Comoros, Moldova, Tanzania, Panama, Malta, Sudan, the Cook Islands, the Pitcairn Islands, Saint Kitts and Nevis, as well as Turkey.

According to the Ukrainian legislation, seaports located in the Russian-occupied Crimea, are closed for navigation.
