Siemens-made gas turbines have caused an accident in Crimea, according to the press service of the Ukrainian ministry for the temporarily occupied territories.

According to the report, the consequences of the emergency situation at the Tavricheskaya (Simferpol) thermal power station were recorded with the help of satellite imagery.

“On November 3, 2018, an emergency area was spotted on the roof of the Tavricheskaya TPP's main building, with signs of thermal damage,” the ministry wrote.

According to the data available, commissioning and adjustment works were being carried out at thermal power plant in relation to Siemens gas turbines earlier installed there, as a result of which an accident allegedly occured.

As reported earlier, Tavricheskaya TPP is set to operate on natural gas. The site for construction was chosen near the Simferopol distribution station, designed to supply electricity in the direction of Crimea's southern coast and Sevastopol.

In mid-July 2017, Russia supplied to the illegally annexed Crimea four gas turbines for their use in power plants under construction. Germany's Siemens said it had evidence that all four of turbines made by the company had been supplied for the project in southern Russia but, instead, they illegally ended up in Crimea.

On September 8, the Moscow Arbitration Court for the second time rejected Siemens's claim for the seizure and and a ban on the installation of turbines in the annexed Crimea.

The German concern sold four gas turbines to Russia's Technopromexport back in 2015. Both companies claimed that the equipment would be sent to the Taman Peninsula, separated from Crimea by the Kerch Strait.
