Boryspil Airport may halt its work over possible strike

The move is caused by employers' reluctance to meet workers' demands.

The Association of Independent Trade Unions of Aviation Workers says Boryspil International Airport located outside the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv may halt its operation over workers' possible strike.

An independent trade union was created at Boryspil-based Aerohandling LLC in 2019 "to address many production and social issues and eliminate labor law violations that had long acquired signs of consistency," the Association wrote on Facebook.

However, the management of Aerohandling LLC, which operates at Boryspil Airport, allegedly ignored the independent trade union's proposal to start negotiations in this regard.

"Now Aerohandling LLC employees have the legal right to a strike as an extreme means of resolving a collective labor dispute. Necessary measures will be taken soon, and the workers will make their decision regarding the strike, which will most likely result in a halt to Boryspil Airport's work," it said.

The Association says the strike in the transport sector may affect many passengers who will not be able to reach their destinations on time. Therefore, it apologizes in advance.

"We ask you to understand us, as we are defending our constitutional rights and freedoms. We don't agree to 'slavery.' A strike is a necessary measure of protection," it said.
