Viber owner ready to help Ukraine with "State in Smartphone" project (Video)

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has met with Hiroshi Mikitani, the founder and CEO of Japanese-based Rakuten Inc., the owner of the Viber messenger, who says he is ready to help Ukraine with the "State in a Smartphone" project.

"It is going to be possible," the Ukrainian TSN news service quoted Hiroshi Mikitani as saying when he commented on the possibility of providing all government services with the use of smartphones.

According to him, security is one of the challenges. "We will be able to create a very secure platform for this," he assured.

The Ukrainian president earlier said his team sought to launch the "State in a Smartphone" project in Ukraine, that is to implement the idea of managing the state through gadgets.

According to the presidential press service, Zelensky and Hiroshi Mikitani also discussed Rakuten's plans to expand its presence in Ukraine, in particular, the expansion of its office in Odesa and the opening of a new office in Kyiv.

The Ukrainian president also invited the Japanese businessman to join the National Investment Council in Ukraine.

"Mikitani said that Ukraine is a priority market for Rakuten. He also expressed his willingness to support the idea of increasing the number of investment projects from Japan," the press service said.
