Growth of prices in Ukraine slows to six-year low – statistics

Consumer inflation in Ukraine in December 2019 was 4.1% year-over-year (against December 2018), which hit a six-year low.

Consumer prices in December 2019 compared to November 2019 were 0.2% down, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said.

Prices of natural gas fell by 28.7%, those of eggs by 14.6%, fuel and lubricants by 8.2%, shoes by 3%, clothes by 2%.

Yet, the highest increase in December 2019 against December 2018 was registered in railway fares for passengers (19.2%), prices of fruit (18.8%), tariffs on hot water and heating (14.4%), education services (13.5%), as well as prices of alcohol and tobacco (13%), it said.

The State Statistics Service says its report does not include data from Russia-occupied Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As UNIAN reported earlier, inflation in Ukraine in 2018 slowed to 9.8% from 13.7% in 2017 and was the lowest level registered in the past five years.
