The newly-appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal considers it necessary to revise the state budget for 2020.

"There are a number of challenges that we need to address immediately. This is to prevent the economic and budget crises. I believe that we need to revise the 2020 Budget, especially in terms of increasing payments and pensions to ordinary Ukrainians. There are expenditures that we need to cut. It concerns salaries and bonuses of officials, including ministers in the new government, members of a number of supervisory boards, and other officials," he said.

According to Shmyhal, one of the priority tasks is to pay off wage arrears to miners.

"We have no right to turn our backs on people who risk their lives every day, and we will not coal industry to be destroyed," he said.

The prime ministerial candidate also said it was necessary to strengthen the government's economic bloc. “It should provide growth of industry and the agricultural sector, which is important, and also to make sure every Ukrainian feels this growth. At the moment, we saw only the strengthening of the hryvnia, which, unfortunately, hit our exports and had not contributed to the well-being of ordinary Ukrainians," Shmyhal said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on Wednesday, March 4, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has appointed Denysh Shmyhal the country's new prime minister. Earlier the same day, Parliament approved resignation filed by Shmyhal's predecessor, Oleksiy Honcharuk, which entailed dismissal of the entire Cabinet.
