Ukrainian border closure over coronavirus exempts cargo shipments

International cargo transportation is not being suspended, the infrastructure ministry assures.

The decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) to shut down Ukraine's borders to foreign nationals for a period of two weeks in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus will not affect cargo shipments.

That's according to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

"In line with the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, in 48 hours Ukraine will close its border for foreign citizens, for two weeks. Citizens of Ukraine will still be able to return to Ukraine," the press service recalled.

"The established restrictions do not apply to international cargo transportation," the statement adds.

"International cargo transportation is not being suspended," the ministry says.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov has said Ukraine will close the border for foreigners in 48 hours for two weeks over the global situation with the novel coronavirus.

So far, Ukraine has reported three confirmed cases of coronavirus in its territory, including one lethal case.
