Occupied areas in Donetsk region owe $150 mln for electricity

Chairman of Donetsk Military and Civilian Administration Pavlo Zhebrivsky says that electricity arrears of the occupied areas in Donetsk region are estimated at UAH 3.9 billion, or US$150 million, with the total debt of the region owed to Ukraine being UAH 5.6 billion, or $215 million.

"The uncontrolled areas [in Donetsk region] owe UAH 3.9 billion for electricity out of UAH 5.6 billion in arrears of the region," Zhebrivsky said at a meeting of Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers on preparations for the 2017 heating season.

Vice-President of the All-Ukrainian Energy Assembly Yuriy Sakva earlier reported that the occupied areas had owed Ukraine UAH 2.985 billion, or US$114.7 million, for electricity as of April 1, 2017, and the overdue payments were rated as bad debts.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Ihor Nasalyk said that the electricity supply might resume as soon as the power debts had been repaid.
