Since the coming into force of the Ukraine-Canada free trade agreement, bilateral trade turnover has grown 60%, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told reporters following a Lviv meeting with Governor General of Canada Julie Payette January 18, the presidential press service reports.
“I can say that we had a lot of achievements in our relations with Canada last year,” the president said.
“We have already achieved the result, as our bilateral trade turnover has grown by 60%. This is a vivid evidence of the improvement of the Ukrainian economy. This also an evidence that the FTA agreement is exactly what the Ukrainian and Canadian business was waiting for,” he stressed.

The Head of State paid special attention for the support of Canada for the rural medicine project. According to him, the delegation of the Government of Ontario visits Ukraine to share experience. The telemedicine is being introduced. “Canada demonstrates a resolute support for the implementation of my initiative as soon as possible,” he said.
In her turn, Governor General of Canada Julie Payette noted that 1.3 million people with Ukrainian origin live in Canada. “Canadians of Ukrainian origin did not only make a huge contribution to the history of Canada, but also make a huge contribution to all spheres of life in Canada,” she noted.
