EU comments on Ukrainian Rada adopting Constitutional amendments on judiciary

The European Union has called a “crucial step” the adoption of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine on justice and now expects a comprehensive reform of the judiciary, that’s according to a statement by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

“The adoption in the final reading of constitutional amendments related to the judiciary by the Verkhovna Rada in Ukraine is a crucial step towards strengthening the judiciary, improving its efficiency, safeguarding its independence and impartiality, and combating corruption,” the two officials stated.

They emphasized that they “look forward to the implementation of a comprehensive reform of the judiciary enabled by today's vote.”
