Agramunt elected PACE President for new term

The incumbent president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Spanish politician Pedro Agramunt has been elected for a new term, according to an UNIAN correspondent from Brussels.

The decision was announced in Strasbourg on Monday in the framework of the PACE's winter plenary session.

The re-elected PACE President immediately took his place on the podium and thanked the deputies. "I will do my best to lead this Assembly forward," he said.

PACE President Agramunt was reported to be insisting that the Assembly should take all necessary steps to return Russian delegates to the plenary hall

The situation with no Russian delegation at the Assembly is beneficial neither to Russia nor the Assembly or any of the other 46 member states, he said then.
