President of Ukraine signed Law of Ukraine No. 2145-VIII On Education, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on September 5, 2017, according to the presidential press service.
The adoption of the new legislation will allow carrying out a profound and comprehensive education reform that will improve quality of education and competitiveness of Ukraine’s younger generation in the labor market, the presidential administration says.
The law will provide for real steps for Ukraine’s inclusion into the European educational space.

The president has stressed the fact law enhances the role of the state Ukrainian language in the educational process. The law provides equal opportunities for all because it guarantees each graduate a high level of language proficiency, necessary for a successful career in Ukraine.

"Ukraine demonstrated and will continue to demonstrate this type of attitude to the rights of national minorities, which corresponds to our international obligations, is in harmony with European standards, and a model for neighboring countries," Petro Poroshenko said.

In educational facilities, one or more classes can be taught in two or more languages of instruction - in the official language, in English and in other official languages of the European Union.
Persons belonging to national minorities of Ukraine are guaranteed the right to study in public educational facilities, along with the state language of instruction, in the language of instruction of the respective national minority, along with the state language of instruction. The right is realized through classes (groups) with instruction in the language of the corresponding national minority along with the state language.
Persons belonging to indigenous peoples of Ukraine are guaranteed the right to study in public facilities of preschool and general secondary education in the language of instruction of the respective indigenous people, along with the state language of instruction. This right is also realized through the creation of classes (groups) with instruction in the language of the respective people along with the state language.
Earlier, such EU states as Poland, Romania, Hungary, Greece, and Bulgaria expressed concern over the norms of the law on the language of instruction for representatives of national minorities.
