Crimean teacher accused by Russia of extremism flees to Kyiv

Crimean teacher Yuriy Ilchenko, accused by the Russian authorities of extremism for non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia, has fled to Kyiv, Ukraine, according to the Ukrainian Information Policy Ministry.

Ilchenko, who is a foreign language teacher and a blogger, was detained by the FSB Federal Security Service on July 2, 2015, and placed into a detention center in Simferopol, Crimea, for 11 months.

He is accused of not recognizing the annexation of Crimea by Russia, which he states in his blog publications and posts on social networks.

Earlier, First Deputy Information Policy Minister Emine Dzhaparova reported that the Russian authorities in Crimea continue intimidating the indigenous Crimean Tatars and increase repression against them.
