Russia-backed militants attacked Ukrainian army positions and civilian areas in eastern Ukraine more than 80 times in the last day; the Ukrainian armed forces claim they are ready for any scenario of developments, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
In particular, the militants fired 152mm and 122mm artillery systems five times, 120mm mortars were used 32 times. The enemy also engaged tanks and multiple rocket launchers.
"From 18:00 to 24:00 Kyiv time on Monday, the militants were shelling fortified positions of the Ukrainian troops near the towns of Avdiyivka, Maryinka, Krasnohorivka, and the villages of Opytne, Novhorodske, Maiorske, Pisky, Vodiane, Leninske, Khimik in the Donetsk sector," the report said.
It was rather quiet in the Luhansk and Mariupol sectors. The militants shelled ATO forces near the village of Krymske. The village of Shyrokyne, which is located near the Ukrainian-controlled city of Mariupol and which has recently been left by militants, was under enemy sniper fire, the ATO press center said.
The report also said that the Ukrainian army had recorded 12 reconnaissance overflights by enemy drones in Luhansk region, two of which were destroyed by the Ukrainian air defense forces.
The ATO press center also wrote that since 00:15 Kyiv time on Tuesday, the Ukrainian positions near the village of Pisky, located close to the destroyed Donetsk airport, have been attacked by a tank twice. Shyrokyne was under sniper fire at 04:00 on Tuesday. The enemy also shelled ATO forces near the town of Schastia and the villages of Stanytsia Luhanska, Krymske, Maiorske, and Luhanske, using harassing fire tactics.
"The Ukrainian armed forces are firmly holding their defensive positions and ready for any scenario of developments," the press center said.
