Ukraine is set to purchase Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 strike drones, says Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

“As we had agreed with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, we signed an agreement on the purchase of Bayraktar TB2 Turkish strike drones for the Ukrainian Army. Besides their high-tech features, these newest tactical strike drones can be equipped with modern high-precision missiles to destroy armored vehicles, fortifications, as well as naval targets, ”the head of state wrote on Facebook.

Poroshenko stressed that the deal between the state-owned Ukrspetsexport, which is part of the Ukroboronprom Concern, and the Turkish company Baykar Makina, is part of measures to expand military-technical cooperation between the two countries.

“This agreement fully complies with Ukraine's strategic course toward the Alliance – its standards and the open global arms market, into which the Ukrainian defense industry is being successfully integrated. We continue to re-equip the Ukrainian army with modern arms models meeting NATO standards,” the president wrote.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine in 2019 will test new types of weapons, in particular, it will begin testing the domestically produced "Kolibri" ("Hummingbird") man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS).

Ukrainian arms producers will also complete the development and begin the testing of a new coastal anti-ship missile complex, "Neptun" ("Neptune"), the Ukrainian government said on Facebook.
