Russia’s Federation Council has proposed to equalize the number of U.S. media outlets represented in Russia with the number of Russian ones working in the U.S., the BBC reports citing the Izvestia newspaper.
The State Department's principal spokeswoman said Tuesday the administration is "confident in the legality" of its decision to shutter Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States, despite a Russian threat to sue over the closures, according to CNN.
Russia is urging the United States to return Russian diplomatic facilities it says U.S. authorities have "seized" in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., calling it an "openly hostile act," RFE/RL reports.
The United States demands that Russia shut San Francisco consulate as well as two annex buildings in Washington and New York in response to Moscow’s actions, The Guardian reports.
