On Monday, March 2, the European Commission will look into violations by Russia's OAO Gazprom of a trilateral memorandum and a related contract on gas supplies to Ukraine, which were signed by representatives of the European Union, Russia and Ukraine in October 2014.
Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Andriy Kobolev announced this before a Ukrainian government meeting, an UNIAN correspondent reported.
"Negotiations in Brussels will touch on the discipline of the fulfillment of the memorandum and the contract signed on October 30 [last year]. We've got clear confirmation, we handed it over to the European Commission to prove that Gazprom has violated its obligations, having supplied less gas to Ukrainian consumers under the scheduled stipulated in the contract," Kobolev said.
As UNIAN reported, Naftogaz announced on February 23 that Gazprom had not fulfilled the application from Ukraine on prepaid gas supplies on February 22, having thus violated the trilateral Brussels agreements.
"In particular, Gazprom should have delivered 114 million cubic meters of gas on February 22-23, 2015, but actually delivered only 47 and 39 million cubic meters, respectively," Naftogaz’s statement reads.
According to Naftogaz, the failure to fulfill the application is a violation of both the gas supply contract, signed by the two companies, and the trilateral binding protocol signed by Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, European Commission Vice President Guenter Oettinger and Ukrainian Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan in Brussels on October 30, 2014.
Notification of the breach of the contract and the Brussels tripartite protocol was sent on February 23 to the Cabinet of Ministers, the European Commission and the Energy Community Secretariat as part of the rapid response procedure, Naftogaz said.
