With Russian propaganda channel Russia Today getting a 40% budget increase this year, and a new English language site Sputnik launched by the Kremlin, the European Council recently urged foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini to draft a plan to counter Russia’s disinformation campaigns, Ukraine Today reports.
According to study research by NGO Freedom House, the Russian media has “equated raw propaganda with legitimate journalism” while “information” warfare is included in the updated version of Russia’s military doctrine.
