The Times: Russia builds military base at Palmyra ruins

The American Schools of Oriental Research published satellite images showing the construction of a military base at the edge of the ancient site. It appeared to include a helicopter pad, two roads and accommodation blocks, The Times wrote.

The US archaeologists said that the new structures were inside the northern necropolis area of Palmyra "close to numerous above-ground and subsurface tombs and funerary temples."
