The chancellor stressed the need for further transit shipments via Ukrainian territory. We hope that Germany's new position will help the ministers of other EU member states to decide on the proposed amendments to the gas directive, already adopted by the European Commission and the European Parliament," Naftogaz's press service wrote on Facebook on April 10. As UNIAN reported earlier, Merkel said at a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on April 10 that she defends Ukraine's gas interests before Putin. According to the chancellor, Ukraine should not lose its significance as a gas transit country because of the Nord Stream 2 construction.
