REUTERS Newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell says he sees a real threat behind the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. "We are very concerned about the gas pipeline project," he told publications of the Funke media group, Deutsche Welle&#39;s Ukrainian language service said. "It&#39;s about Russian influence," he said. The diplomat described the current gas pipeline strategy as "very problematic." European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager also criticizes the Nord Stream 2 project. According to her, the gas pipeline does not meet European interests. "We have a common strategy – to get our energy from different sources and make us not so much dependent on Russia," Vestager said. According to her, the construction of the gas pipeline is not in the interests of the EU not only from the point of view of climate protection, but also security.
