Russia's Gazprom about to start laying Nord Stream 2 pipes in Finland

REUTERS Russia&#39;s gas giant Gazprom is about to start laying pipes underwater soon to build the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in Finland&#39;s territory. Solitaire, one of the world&#39;s largest pipe-laying ships, will build the Russian pipeline in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Finland, and then will move to another sector, Russia&#39;s Vedomosti newspaper reported, citing a statement by a spokesman for Nord Stream 2 AG. Later in 2018, the vessel will be laying pipes in the waters of Russia. Solitaire has already arrived at the port of Helsinki, the Marine Traffic website said. There is no information where the vessel will be heading to after the visit to this port. The construction completion of a 1,220-km long pipeline worth EUR 9.5 billion with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters a year is scheduled for late 2019. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko earlier called on European partners to abandon the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. "Nord Stream 2 is a &#39;Trojan horse&#39; of the Kremlin against European energy and, ultimately, geopolitical security," he wrote on Facebook. Ukraine is against the construction of Nord Stream 2 as it expects a decline in gas transit shipments across its territory and subsequently a decrease in revenue from gas transit.
