Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič says negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia and the European Commission on Russian gas transit shipments via Ukraine after 2019 are slated for September 19.

"Pleased to announce that I will host the next round of trilateral gas talks on September 19. I am convinced that progress would send a strong positive signal to [the] market as well as consumers ahead of the winter season," he wrote on Twitter on September 9.

As UNIAN reported earlier, it became known on September 4 that the new Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine, Oleksiy Orzhel, would lead a Ukrainian delegation at the trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the EU on the extension of Russian gas transit via Ukrainian territory.

UNIAN memo. The current 10-year gas transit contract between Ukraine and Gazprom was signed in 2009. Once it expires from 2020, the Russian monopoly plans to minimize gas transit through Ukraine.
