A police vehicle that was part of the Ukrainian president's motorcade hit an elderly man at the corner of Instytutska and Shovkovychna Streets in the center of Kyiv March 6.

The police told Obozrevatel news outlet that a Volkswagen police sedan hit a pedestrian who ignored a traffic controller's prohibiting signs and got onto the road.

The road accident's male victim, 88, was taken to a hospital. According to preliminary information, he suffered a leg fracture and concussion.

Investigators are studying the details of the incident.

"Regardless of the signal of the regulator, we are talking about an elderly person. The President regrets an accident involving a police vehicle and has already instructed that the necessary assistance be provided to the victim," Petro Poroshenko's press secretary said.
