Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko is leading in the latest polls on candidates for the next mayoral elections, while candidate with the Servant of the People Party, Oleksandr Tkachenko, may become his main competitor.

Over 40% of respondents are ready to vote for the incumbent mayor of Kyiv, according to a study by the Sociological Monitoring Center.

In turn, only a candidate from the Servant of the People Party may compete with Klitschko, the poll suggests. A total of 26.5% of respondents are ready to vote for a mayoral candidate from the ruling party "Servant of the People".

Some 42.5% of respondents are ready to vote for Klitschko, 12.4% could support Andriy Palchevskyi, 7.2% - Oleksandr Tkachenko, and 6.8% – showman Serhiy Prytula.

"Not only has Klitschko a high rating, he also has an anti-rating. According to the study, a strong candidate from the Servant of the People may compete in the second round. But the presidential party is hindered by uncertainty. They need to select a strong candidate and start the fight for the mayor's chair as soon as possible," said Director of the Sociological Monitoring Center Dmytro Dmytruk.

According to experts, Tkachenko has a high potential to resist Klitschko.

"He is showing good dynamics. Kyiv residents take him more seriously than other potential candidates from the ruling party. If Tkachenko starts a more pro-active campaign, if he's supported by the party and president, he has nice chances for the second round," Head of the Penta Center for Applied Political Research Volodymyr Fesenko said.

Regarding the positions of Palchevskyi, experts believe his current rating is temporary.

"He started a PR campaign earlier. A very pro-active campaign, but it will be over. He is associated mainly with pro-Russian forces. And now he is in second place, because the Servant of the People Party hasn't actively started the campaign," Fesenko said.
