Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has said the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city rose by 70 in the past day.

"In the past 24 hours, the number of Kyiv residents who tested positive [for the coronavirus] increased by 70, including five healthcare workers. Unfortunately, one case was lethal," he said during an online briefing on April 23.

In total, there are 1,059 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Kyiv.

According to Klitschko, 34 women aged 21 to 84 and 29 men aged 26 to 71 are among those infected. In addition, two girls and five boys under the age of 17 tested positive for the coronavirus.

Klitschko said 24 new patients had been hospitalized, while the rest were self-isolating, undergoing treatment at home under the supervision of doctors.

Six people were discharged from hospitals over the past day, he said. In total, 45 Kyiv residents have already been discharged from hospitals in the capital city.
