Kyiv ranks 106th out of the 209 cities in the Mercer 2020 Cost of Living Ranking, having climbed by 44 positions from the 150th spot.
The Ukrainian capital city shares the 106th place with Hamburg (Germany) and Lisbon (Portugal), according to Mercer's 26th annual Cost of Living Survey.
The top five most expensive cities for emigrants include: Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China/HKSAR), Ashgabat (Turkmenistan), Tokyo (Japan), Zurich (Switzerland), and Singapore (Singapore).
Tunisia, Windhoek (Namibia), Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and Karachi (Pakistan) closed the ranking. When compiling the rating, Mercer took into account currency, cost inflation for goods and services, and instability of accommodation prices in cities.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Kyiv had climbed by 22 positions in the Economist Intelligence Unit's Worldwide Cost of Living 2020 ranking from the 133rd to the 86th spot, while the top position was shared by Singapore, Hong Kong, and Osaka.
