Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has thanked the United States for the decision to sell Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Ukraine.

"The inspiring piece of news from the United States – Ukraine will get what has been talked about for a long time, but has not been confirmed – the Javelins! Under my agreements with the American leadership and thanks to bipartisan support of the Congress, it has become a reality," the president wrote on Facebook on March 2.

According to Poroshenko, the international support of Ukraine's defense is in action now.

"This weapon in the hands of the Ukrainian military will become an additional deterrent against Russian aggression in Donbas," he said.

Poroshenko thanked U.S. President Donald Trump and the entire Ukrainian support team for "the important historic decision."

"Only in unity and solidarity, we can stop the Russian aggressor and save the Free World from his manic ambitions," the president added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the U.S. Department of State had made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Ukraine of Javelin Missiles and Javelin Command Launch Units (CLUs) for an estimated cost of $47 million.
