Ukrainian schools, universities may resume work from March 5 – Energy Ministry
The crisis committee at the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, which is responsible for overcoming the natural gas deficit in the gas transportation system, has decided to allow the resumption of work and gas supply of educational institutions from March 5.
"To resume the work of educational institutions and their gas supply throughout Ukraine from March 5, 2018," according to the minutes of the committee meeting published on the ministry's Facebook page.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Science said all educational institutions, including kindergartens, schools, vocational schools and universities, may resume work as usual from Monday, March 5, 2018.
"The Ministry of Education and Science has sent the relevant clarification letter to all universities and local self-government bodies, which control other educational institutions. An exception may apply to those institutions that do not work for reasons not related to gas supply, such as quarantine, etc.," the press service of the Ministry of Education reported with reference to the decision of the crisis committee at the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Education and Science drew attention to the fact that the decision to suspend or resume the work of educational institutions is taken by the institution itself within its autonomy.
"The relevant decisions should also be made by local self-government bodies, which control other educational institutions," the ministry said.
Earlier, the Ministry of Education and Science recommended all educational institutions to suspend work from March 2 to March 7 inclusively due to the gas shortage in the country.
