The Party of Regions could not reach compromise with the coalition, and kicks off protest actions against Ukraine’s joining NATO.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, this is said in the statement, which was read to journalists by Party of Regions leader Victor Yanukovych.
According to him, the Party of Regions “has exhausted the reserve of its opportunities to look for ways of persuading the “orange leaders” that their stance is pernicious”. He stressed that now the Party of Regions will turn to the nation “for support”.
Victor Yanukovych also informed that the faction leaders at their session could not reach compromise on unblocking the work of the Verkhovna Rada.
In particular, the statement reads that “unwillingness of the orange coalition to look for a compromise in the sphere of carrying out an all-Ukrainian referendum on the country’s joining NATO may be regarded as deliberate actions, aimed at destabilizing the internal political situation in the country”.
According to Victor Yanukovych, Party of Regions faction members are confident that the “voluntarism in the sphere of joining the so-called MAP was reflected in the gas relations with our Russian partners”.
Victor Yanukovych noted that the issue of Ukraine’s joining NATO must be removed from agenda, as of today. According to him, now the Party of Regions will turn to the nation. “Let Ukrainian citizens say whether they support the policy of signing secret documents, which threaten the neighbor relations with our biggest partner – the Russian Federation”, the document reads.
