VR approved NATO resolution
Ukraine`s joining NATO will depend on referendum results
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approves the resolution “On decision concerning entering of Ukraine to the Organization of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO)”.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, 248 out of 423 parliament members registered in the chamber voted for this decision.
The faction of the CPU did not take part in the voting.
175 parliament members from the faction of the Party of Regions, 34 parliament members from the BYUT, 19 parliament members from the OU-PSD and 20 parliament members from the Lytvyn’s Bloc voted for the resolution.
It is provided by the resolution that the decision on Ukraine`s joining NATO will be made basing on the results of an all-Ukrainian referendum, which can take place on people’s initiative, in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On All-Ukrainian Referendums”. Also it is provided by the document that the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has to inform the Secretary General of NATO about this decision.
