Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said NATO is the only tool of global security left in the world.
"What happens when an aggressor is a member of the UN Security Council, which can veto and block, as was the case with the decision made by the independent tribunal and the investigation into the MH17 flight downing? Russia then blocked the decision, thereby recognizing its responsibility for this terrible crime," Poroshenko said during a Svoboda Slova [Freedom of Speech] talk show on Ukraine's ICTV channel, the president's press service said.
"Similarly, the UN Security Council is not an instrument of global security in the current environment," the president said, adding: "There is only one global security tool left in the world. It is called NATO."
"The illegal annexation of Crimea and the aggression against our country in the east actually destroyed the entire post-war world security system based on the decision of the UN Security Council and the joint decision of the permanent members of the Security Council," he said.
