Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal has explained why Ukraine will not denounce the Agreement between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Strait of Kerch.

"The denunciation of the Agreement with Russia on the Sea of Azov is out of the question – this will let the Russian Federation claim there is a territorial dispute," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine wrote on Twitter citing Zerkal during the Meeting of Ambassadors 2018.

"This is a matter of security for us, therefore all available tools are being used to resolve it," she said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Oleksandr Khara, the deputy chair of the board of the Black Sea Institute of Strategic Studies, said Ukraine should withdraw from the Agreement between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Strait of Kerch, in which both are recognized as inland waters. It is this document that Russia exploits to justify its provocative actions, according to the expert.
