The State Duma of the Russian Federation has commented on Ukraine's announced plans to unilaterally terminate the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership with Russia.

According to Chairman of the Duma Committee on CIS Leonid Kalashnikov, the Treaty of Friendship between Ukraine and Russia is meaningless and there will not be "special consequences" after its termination, the Russian Izvestia newspaper reports.

"There will be no real practical consequences. On the other hand, Russia will have no moral and political obligations to implement such agreements," Kalashnikov said.

According to him, one of the parties must declare the termination of the agreement before the end of October, after which it will not be prolonged.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare the necessary package of documents for the termination of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership with Russia.
