Russian occupation administration in Donbas plans to include servicemen of the Russian armed forces in the voter lists as local residents, says spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Dmytro Hutsuliak.

"Russian occupation authorities intend to get all military personnel of the Russian armed forces, citizens of Russia who illegally arrived in the territory of Ukraine, to participate in the 'election' on November 11, by putting them in the lists of voters as locals registered at the addresses of military units," the official told a briefing on November 2, referring to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Russian-controlled de-facto authorities in Donbas plan to hold sham local elections in the Russian-controlled areas in Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk regions on November 11.

The U.S. Department of State called on Russia to join aspirations for peace in Ukraine and cancel the illegitimate, sham elections in the occupied areas.

In addition, eight European Union members of the United Nations Security Council called on the authorities of the Russian Federation to stop preparations for illegal elections in the Russian-occupied part of Donbas.
