Poroshenko calls on PACE to make efforts to free Savchenko
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is concerned about the condition of Ukrainian pilot and Verkhovna Rada MP Nadia Savchenko and has called on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to do all it can to achieve her release from jail in Russia.
According to the press service of the president, he said this on Thursday during a meeting with the President of the PACE Anne Brasseur and a PACE delegation now in Ukraine on a working visit.
"We have elected [Savchenko] a member of the delegation to the PACE, and it would be natural if the PACE could take the necessary decisions [to achieve] the release of the deputy, and a pilot who has defended her country," Poroshenko said.
"I ask the PACE to make all necessary efforts to achieve the release of this member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE [from Russian detention]," he said.
