President Victor Yushchenko met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Terry Davis on March 19, according to the President`s press-office.

First of all the parties discussed constitutional reform in Ukraine. Victor Yushchenko informed Terry Davis about National Constitutional Council’s activity and preparation of the new edition of the Constitution. “All political forces understand that constitutional reform is a direct response to [the need] of political situation stabilization. [Completing]The reform of 2004, hasty and incomplete, is perceived by all the participants of political process as a target number one in achieving political stability”, - said Victor Yushchenko.

During the meeting President also raised the question of the Council of Europe’s recognition of the Great Famine 1932-1933 the genocide against Ukrainian Nation. He also recieved acceptance from Mr. Davis of invitation to participate in an International Forum dedicated to 75th anniversary of Holodomor which shall be held in Kyiv in November 2008.

Besides, the participants of the meeting discussed elections of the Judge from Ukraine to the European Court of Human Rights and perspectives of adoption of Europe – Ukraine Cooperation plan for 2008-2011 by the Committee of Ministers of the Council.

Victor Yushchenko expressed gratitude to Terry Davis for his personal support to Ukraine and to the development of democracy in the state.
