As Russian newspaper Kommersant reported earlier, Moscow’s Basmanniy Court extended the arrest of Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko until May 13 at a hearing on Tuesday, February 10. She was charged with being involved in the death of two Russian journalists near Luhansk in July 2014, as well as with illegal crossing of the border.

According to her own account, Savchenko was kidnapped by Russian-backed separatists in Luhansk region and, “sold” to Russian agents in exchange for weapons and ammunition. She was then illegally taken over the Russian border and charged in the Russian courts with being responsible for the deaths of Russian journalists in Ukraine.

Savchenko has been on hunger strike for two months in protest at the conditions of her detention in Russia.
