Poroshenko: Social payments to resume in Donbas after local elections
The payment of social benefits in certain areas of the Donbas will resume after the local elections and the restoration of the sovereignty of Ukraine in these areas, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Thursday after the Minsk talks, according to Ukrainian television’s Channel 24.
"The social benefits should be restored, but only after the stabilization of the political situation, the holding of local elections and the restoration of the state sovereignty of Ukraine in the occupied territories," Poroshenko said.
As reported earlier, on February 12, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President François Hollande held talks in Minsk to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. At the same time, the Tripartite Contact Group also held talks in Minsk, after which all parties signed a final document.
