The United States Embassy in Ukraine has called on Russia to cease unjust searches and persecution of Crimean Tatars in the occupied Crimea.

"We are extremely concerned by Russia’s raids and massive intimidation today targeting Crimean Tatars. We call on the Russian government to cease its unjust arrests, detentions, searches, and persecution of Crimean Tatars, activists, and journalists. #CrimeaIsUkraine," the U.S. diplomats wrote on Twitter.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on March 27, Russian law enforcers in the illegally occupied Crimea conducted massive searches in homes of 25 Crimean Tatars, having taken a number of detainees to the FSB office in Simferopol.

The FSB press service claimed the searches were part of the investigation into the Hizb ut Tahrir organization, which is banned in Russia.

Law enforcers later reported on the detention of 20 individuals.
