EU intends to review its Neighborhood Policy
Brussels is planning to start consultations on the future of the European Neighborhood Policy, spokesperson for the European Commission Margaritis Shinas in Brussels told journalists on Tuesday.
"EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn and EU High Representative Federica Mogherini will present the future approach on the European Neighborhood Policy", he said.
He also said that since the last revision, which took place in 2011, the region has undergone significant changes.
"Now it is important to carry out a fundamental review of the principles on which the policy is based, as well as how the appropriate tools can be used. The goal is to carry out extensive consultations with partner countries, as well as with the EU members by the end of June," the EC’s press office said in a press release.
The proposals for the future direction of the European Neighborhood Policy are to be published in autumn after the carrying out of public consultations, the press service said.
