A suspect in a major embezzlement case charged with inflicting damage to the state budget worth over $346 million, former People's Deputy of Ukraine Dmytro Kriuchkov, has been extradited from Germany.

Detectives of the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine detained the former MP and former Chairman of the Board of PJSC "Energomerezha" upon his arrival in the airport "Boryspil" on Monday, April 15.

"Within 48 hours from the moment of detention, the court should choose a preventive measure," NABU reported.

"Detectives, in consultation with the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office, will insist on remanding the suspect in custody with a bail of UAH 346.22 million," the statement reads.

NABU also promised to reveal more details later.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on March 29, journalists of the Skhemy journalistic investigation project released a report alleging that Ihor Kononenko, a close ally and business partner of President Petro Poroshenko, in embezzling funds in the energy sector. The journalists received at their disposal from undisclosed sources what they allege is records of phone conversations of a person involved in the case of Dmytro Kriuchkov, investigated by NABU several years ago. Said records allegedly back the claims against Mr Kononenko.
