Militants fire on Ukrainian army 14 times in last day
Russian-backed militants have fired 14 times on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces in the last 24 hours, the government’s Anti-Terrorist Operation spokesman Anatoliy Stelmakh said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
"The militants carried out isolated attacks on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces. From 2000 on March 5 to 0600 on March 6 the militants fired 14 times on the positions of our units," Stelmakh said.
"For a long time the largest number of attacks were recorded in the area of Donetsk. Around 2000 the militants fired with mortars and grenades on Avdiivka and the village of Pisky. At 0150 the militants again hit Avdiivka, at 0310 they attacked the village of Kamianka and at 0410 they fired on the village of Khimik," Stelmakh said.
"In the direction of Mariupol, at 2145 and at 0030 the militants fired for nearly an hour with small arms and rocket-propelled grenades on the village of Shyrokyne. At 2130 they tried to unsuccessfully storm our positions," he said.
"In the direction of Artemivsk, at 2005 the sniper hit the village of Leninske, and at 2030 the militants fired small arms on the village of Shumy," Stelmakh said.
"Despite the attempts of the militants to disrupt the peace agreements by the shelling, the Ukrainian armed forces do not respond to provocations and use their weapons only in cases of a direct threat to human life," he added.
