President's envoy in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Artur Gerasimov has reacted to the demand of President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky to set the inauguration date for May 19.

"I cannot ignore the recent appeal of President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky to the Verkhovna Rada. There is a separation of branches of power in democratic countries and there is respect between the branches. It's only our northern neighbor where parliament is told what it should or should not do," he said at a meeting of the Conciliatory Council of faction leaders and chairmen of parliamentary committees, according to a UNIAN correspondent.

According to Gerasimov, this style of appeals introduces a "dangerous tradition because democracy is, above all, about procedure and respect."

As UNIAN reported earlier, on May 10, Ukraine's President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky urged the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, to set the inauguration date for May 19.
