Ukraine's new President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree disbanding the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament.

"In line with Part 2 of Article 77, Parts 6-7 of Article 83, Clause 1 of Part 2 of Article 90 of the Constitution of Ukraine and in accordance with Clauses 7 and 8 of Part 1 of Article 106 of the Constitution of Ukraine I am ruling on the termination of the powers of the Verkhovna Rada of the eighth convocation ahead of time," Decree No. 303/2019, posted on the Presidential Administration's website, says.

Under the document, the early parliamentary elections shall be held on Sunday, July 21, 2019.

The decree comes into force from the day of its publication, May 21.

As UNIAN reported earlier, during his swearing-in speech in parliament on May 20, 2019, Zelensky announced plans to disband the parliament.
