Ukrainian parliament backs peacekeeper appeal to EU and UN (Video)
The Verkhovna Rada has passed a bill submitted earlier this week by President Petro Poroshenko calling for deployment of EU and UN peacekeepers to the country's east engulfed in military conflict, with 341 out of 450 vote in favor, according to the parliament's press service.
The peacekeeping and security missions are due to observe the fulfillment of the Minsk-2 ceasefire agreement of February, 12 in Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Ukraine Today reports.
Peacekeepers would be stationed along the conflict line between government forces and pro-Russian insurgents, and also along some parts of the Ukraine-Russia border, according to the appeal by Ukraine's Security and Defense Council.
