U.S. Embassy: Election process in Ukraine "respected fundamental freedoms"
The Embassy of the United States of America in Ukraine has stated that the election process in Ukraine respected fundamental freedoms.
"We welcome OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR)'s initial assessment of the Rada elections and congratulate the Ukrainian people on conducting election process that respected fundamental freedoms," the U.S. diplomats wrote on Twitter.
The Embassy also congratulated Ukrainian authorities and law enforcement on their "efforts to ensure Ukrainians could safely exercise their democratic rights."
As UNIAN reported, special coordinator and head of the Mission of short-term observers representing the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Ilkka Kanerva, on behalf of the observers of international organizations, said that the snap elections to the Verkhovna Rada were competitive. In particular, the voting process was rated positively, while the counting of votes was assessed as equally transparent.
