A corresponding government bill, No. 2490 "On the Civil Service," was published on the Web site of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Monday.
As well as the ban on civil servants being members of political parties, the government proposes that parliament ban officials from using their official position to aid political parties.
According to the bill, the law applies to government positions in the secretariats of the Cabinet of Ministers, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, the High Council of Justice, the Central Election Commission, the Chamber of Accounts, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Human Rights, and in ministries and other central executive authorities, including local state administrations.
As UNIAN reported earlier, according to the former Georgian president and head of the Ukrainian International Advisory Council on Reforms, Mikheil Saakashvili, the salaries of the Ukrainian government officials should be increased to several thousand dollars as a measure to combat corruption.
