According to an UNIAN correspondent, the president made the statement at the first meeting of Ukraine’s Constitutional Commission.

"Decentralization has nothing to do with federalization. Ukraine has always been and, I am sure, will remain a unitary state. And it is not because we, on the top, have decided so, but because we regularly study public opinion. And I assure you that over the past year public support of the unitary model of Ukraine’s governance is very strong - approaching 90%," Poroshenko said at the meeting.

At the same time, the president said he was ready to hold a referendum on the state system of Ukraine.

"For those who really want to instigate a debate on federalization, we have the ultimate tool - a referendum. And I'm ready to hold a referendum on the state system of Ukraine, if you consider it necessary" Poroshenko said.
