President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree granting Ukrainian citizenship to 11 foreign nationals who took part in defending the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

That's according to the presidential press service.

"All persons who are being granted Ukrainian citizenship with this decree, were directly involved in protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the country's east," the statement said.

Among those on the list, Timerkhan Munaev, the son of Isa Munaev, the fallen commander of the Dzhokhar Dudayev International Peacekeeping Battalion.

Isa Munaev was killed near Debaltseve in February 2015.
